Work at Home Weekend 2014, the work-at-home event of the year

WAHMderful Facebook Cover

You know, I began the WAHMderful Community as a small group on Facebook of about less than 10 moms. I called it “Manila Work-at-Home Moms,” because all the WAHMs I knew of were based in Manila. That was early 2012, when I bought this domain name, “wahmderfullife.com,” and started dreaming about a community of like-minded women who believed in the lifestyle of “making a living while making a home.”

In the beginning, a handful were there to help the first-ever gathering/workshop of work at home moms:

The first batch of WAHMs, during the planning stages of the very first WAHMderful Life Workshop: (L-R) Marge, me, Toni, and Michelle.

Seated: Toni Tiu (wifelysteps.com) and Michelle Padrelanan (beyondthesilverandgold.com)

It’s been two good years. And we’ve just been growing bigger as a community! Today, our private and exclusive Facebook community of work-at-home moms — those who’ve been to our workshops and were part of that initial community of Manila-based WAHMs — number well over 1,000 members. We’ve been told it is one of the most nurturing, supportive and genuinely thoughtful Facebook communities ever:

Our exclusive, invitation-only community for WAHMs. Request an invitation at https://www.facebook.com/groups/WAHMmanila/

Through the years, we have encouraged, pray for, and challenged each other as homebased workers. We have laughed together, cried together, empathized with one another. We have had dozens of workshops on every aspect of being a work-at-home professional, thanks to Manila Workshops, who produces these events. We have challenged each other even in other aspects, such as health and wellness, all for the better.

If you have been looking for a community to belong to, as a work at home individual, then join us. Whether you’re a mom or not, we are YOUR tribe because we fully understand and live the lifestyle each day of the work-at-home professional.

WAHMderful 101 - SPEAKERS

Where it all began: The WAHM 101 Workshop

In October of 2012, we held our first workshop ever for the work-at-home moms in Manila. We had a full house — 45 women in all — who came together to know more about the meaning of working from home and making a home. It’s hard to believe that after two years, and ten workshops later, we’re still here! And from the initial 45 workshoppers, our online community of WAHMs has boomed. We’re over 1,200 members in our private online community on Facebook, and we’re growing more and more.

We started with a panel of “guest WAHMs”:

We grew from workshop to workshop. We reached an attendance of 70+ at one time:

And we just kept on going, until the community began to connect with one another. Some formed business partnerships, others found job leads through our Facebook groups, and even started doing their own learning events and workshops. Through time, our Facebook group gained a reputation for being one of the most genuine and supportive online groups for local work-at-home moms.

All this makes us happy. It’s been a good two years! And we only want to get better and better.

From the first 101 workshop, much has happened, and a lot has changed in terms of what we know now about the WAHM landscape. That’s why this workshop is an updated version of the first one we did last year, the very first time we connected and communed with the WAHMs here in Manila:

We’re excited to see you on June the 28th! The early bird rate is a super steal at Php1,000, and comes with lunch and your workshop materials. We’ve never offered the workshop this low before, and considering that the content is wholly different from our first workshop, we know that you won’t want to miss this, even if you were there on the first run last October 2012.

WAHMderful Workshops 101 - 2014

We’ll be talking about:

  • how to make the jump from working girl to WAHM (actual steps we took to transition)
  • how to create a need for your services, even if you have never worked from home before. (strategies on creating your own job, so that you will use your skills to start working from home, even if you’re still employed)
  • what you can learn from real WAHMs who’ve made mistakes but have risen to experience success in the work at home lifestyle. You’ll learn from our panel of three very special and inspiring WAHMs!

Plus, you’ll be getting goodies from our sponsor, Unilab!

We hope to see you there with the other WAHMs in Manila! You can sign up right away:

Updated Schedules for 2014 Workshops and WAHM Events

WAHMderful Workshops Schedule 2014

Manila Workshops and the WAHMderful Life have been collaborating on workshops for work-at-home moms since 2012. We’re posting our UPDATED SCHEDULE for work-at-home mom workshops for 2014. We have only ONE workshop left this year, and it’s on June 28. Our next event will be way in October na. Hope you can all join the WAHM 101 this coming June 28!

As always for previous WAHMderful Workshop attendees, the WAHM Mastermind events are free-of-charge. Ladies who have not attended the 2012-2014 WAHM workshops but would like to attend the Masterminds need to pay Php600 upon entrance. Learn how to be a virtual assistant or blogger while working from home!

Wow, can you believe this is our second YEAR of the WAHMderful Workshops? The .

This May, we’re bringing back one of our favorite, best-selling workshops. This will be our third run of it! We actually ran this workshop twice last year, with 70 women attending the first workshop in January 2013, and another 40+ attending the re-run in March of the same year. So, yeah, it’s rather popular!

See you on May 17th!

I’m happy to present to you the 3rd run of the best-selling “Real Ways to be a WAHM workshop”. We’re calling it “The one about Blogging and being a Virtual Assistant”, though it was formerly called “How to Be a Freelance Writer or Virtual Assistant.” We’re stepping things up this time around!

This will be on May 17 from 9AM to 5PM. The venue will be at the Insular Life Multi-Purpose Hall at the 12th Floor, Insular Life Building in Makati City.

The content

What’s great about this workshop is —unlike the original runs, where we had breakouts — this time, you’ll be able to attend BOTH topics’ talks. The morning session from 9:30AM – 11:30 will deal with the blogging-related jobs that WAHMs can do from home (which branches out to other jobs not related to writing,  like entrepreneurship, social media, virtual assistance, and so on)

The afternoon session will deal specifically with the field of virtual assistance, which is a multi-faceted, multi-skill based homebased job that is very popular among work-at-home professionals.

Basically, if you’re a WAHM already or you’re still dabbling: We’ll show you with our combined 15 years of expertise in WAHM-ing, how you can transition into the WAHM life, even before you make your first paycheck.

Register now!

Early bird rate (pay before May 9, 2014) is at Php 1100 but if you come with a “buddy”, fee is at Php 1000 per person. Sign up now and pay ASAP to avail of the Early bird rates! The Learning Circle Card discount can only be applied to the Early bird rate and to the regular rate!

How the WAHMderful Mastermind can help YOU (and the schedule of Mastermind #2, Business Ideas for WAHMs)

We had an intimate but very engaging turnout at last month’s WAHMderful Mastermind, the first of a series of support & accountability sessions for work-at-homies. It was held on February 22 at Mothercare Bonifacio High Street. Here are some snippets of the day.

Our topic was “the heart of the WAHM,” and together, we talked openly about our struggles to manage work, home, and family. It was a very real, raw discussion, but in the end, we all committed to supporting one another in our efforts to work at home. (In fact, the session gave birth to an impromptu blogging workshop, just among the moms present!)

This April 12, you can once again experience the support and sisterhood of the Mastermind. Our session will be on Business Ideas, and we will brainstorm the different ways we can put our WAHM intentions to work, specifically towards a home-based business. If  you need guidance on how to find that idea that you can work with, join us for the second Mastermind Class in April 12, 2014 at Mothercare Active Fun, Bonifacio Global City from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.

Real Ways to be a WAHM New Workshop on April 5

It’s been a while since we last had a “Real Ways to be a WAHM” Workshop! This is our workshop for those men and women who would like to know “insider info” on real jobs that can be done from home. There’s more out there than the usual jobs of freelance writing and virtual assistance (though we have a workshop for that, too!), and this April’s installment is one of our most unique and value-packed workshops to date!

wahmderful workshop manila workshops

The featured speakers here are all experts in the art of multi-tasking and project management. I’m impressed just by how much knowledge they will impart during this one-day workshop! We’re talking about almost 20 years of online work, entrepreneurship and technological know-how on online systems, just between these three powerhouse speakers:

Real Ways to WAHM - 2014 April SPEAKERS

Topics to be discussed are How to Run an Online Store & How to Manage Multiple Projects. This workshop will be held at the 12th Floor, Insular Life Building Makati, Ayala Corner Paseo De Roxas, Makati City (the building has a Starbucks store in the ground floor). It will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Registration will start at 9:30AM and we will also have time for networking after the session at 4:30-5:00 PM.

What Goes on in a Work-at-Home Mom Mastermind?

WAHMderful Master Mind TARP

We’ll be having our very first WAHMderful Mastermind tomorrow at Mothercare Bonifacio Global City

What is a mastermind?

The best definition of a mastermind is this:

Masterminding is two or more people working together toward a goal or vision. When you mastermind, you hold a vision for someone else and they do the same for you; you use your combined energy to attract and create your dreams. This doesn’t mean that you are working on the same projects together, although you can. It only means that you are supporting each other in your visions, you are ‘holding’ a vision for someone, visualizing their dreams as if they are already a reality. — Sandy Grayson, Sandy Grayson Coaching

Napoleon Hill — one of the pioneering thought leaders in person success theory — first laid out the idea of masterminding. Hill believed that —

“The ‘Master Mind’ may be defined as the coordination of knowledge and effort in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people for the attainment of a definite purpose. When a group of individual brains are coordinated and function in harmony, the increased energy created through that alliance becomes available to every individual brain the group.” — Napoleon Hill

This is exactly what our WAHMderful Mastermind is all about. It’s about:

  • coordinating our knowledge of working at home;
  • sharing our individual experiences, while —
  • working for a specific purpose

In our case, we want to be able to support one another towards our WAHM goals, whatever they may be. Everyone in the group will have a different attainment purpose, a different goal that they want to reach. The idea is that the combined energy of the mastermind members helps everyone achieve their purpose or goal.

The Mastermind Format

Here’s a basic format of a mastermind session (such as the ones we’ll be having in Mothercare BGC this year).

Intros & Hellos

Since all of the WAHMderful Mastermind members will have met during previous WAHMderful Workshops, we’ll just do a simple ‘getting to know you’ at the start of each session. This will take about 5-20 minutes before the session, depending on how much time you’ll have in the program. (We have about two hours for each Mastermind session, from 11:30AM – 1:30PM)

The Guided Session

This is the central portion of the mastermind session, where everyone participates and contributes to a discussion. It will mostly be a free-for-all type of discussion, but we will have guided themes so that everyone has some solid takeaways at the end of the session. For the first session, “The Heart of the Work-at-Home Parent,” we’ll be discussion the following:

  • What is one thing that is currently working really well in your work-at-home life?
  • What is one thing you are struggling with, or one thing that you would like to brainstorm about this Mastermind session (and over the coming weeks)?
  • What is a helpful tool or resource that has helped you in your work-at-home life, which you believe will help others in the group? (This could be an ebook, a book, a blog, a podcast, a service, etc.)

It’s important for everyone to take notes during this time, and also exchange email addresses with people in the Mastermind whom they believe they most connect with and resonate with.

Parting & Intention-Setting for Next Mastermind

At the end of the Mastermind, each member should go home with the following:

  • A resource that they will try before the next Mastermind;
  • A specific area of improvement that they will work on and report on for the next Mastermind.

Remember our objective: Those who successfully complete the Masterminds this 2014 will be eligible to win a cash grant to start their very own homebased business (mompreneurship or freelance business). This is perfect for those who want to sell products and/or services, because you can use that money to fund your homebased business!

So that in a nutshell is what will go on in our Masterminds. There’s no “leader” or “main speaker,” take note. Everyone is expected to participate, share and empower the other group members. After all, it is the shared energy, effort and enthusiasm that will help fuel the sisterhood in the WAHMderful community and keep us ever-reaching for our goals.
